FT-IR Analysis of Beta vulgaris Peels and Pomace Dye Extracts and Surface Analysis of Optimally Dyed-Mordanted Cellulosic Fabrics

FT-IR spectroscopy is a nondestructive technique that can be utilized for the qualitative characterization of natural dyes and dyed substrates through structure elucidation. This work aimed at dye extract from Beta vulgaris peels pomaces surface analysis optimally dyed-mordanted cotton (cellulosic) fabric using Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, as well colour fastness tests (light, washing, rubbing, perspiration). Response methodology (RSM) was employed in optimization dyeing temperature (T), time (t), pH, applying relative percent change strength (ΔE) fabrics response. The mordants (tannic acid-alum) were compared with synthetic (K2Cr2O7, FeSO4, CuSO4) three mordanting methods. optimized parameters T (55°C), t (75 minutes), pH (6.5), result comparatively high % ΔE (11%). revealed different characteristic absorption peak values various functional groups: 3282.82 cm−1 (–OH stretch), 2932.96 (C–H 1588.91 (C=N among others. C=N bond stretch biomarks presence nitrogen-containing compounds such reddish betanin pigments. p > 0.05 implied they are not significant but affect probably alongside other factors mordanting. spectral bleached (nonmordanted mordanted) varied peaks indicating groups suggesting cellulose binding chromophores which yield shades. Postmordanting showed mean ratings 4-5 (excellent) all tests, displayed by tannic acid-alum, CuSO4. Generally, resulted enhanced stability improved fastness. To identify specific extracts their molecular configurations due to mordants, advanced hyphenated systems employed.
